Privacy policy

This policy explains what information Cheffar collects when you use our product, how we use it, and the choices you have. It covers hosts, cooks, and visitors.

Effective 10 August 2026

Who we are

Cheffar is operated by Zoraar and its affiliates. We help hosts book private cooks for home gatherings across Africa. When this policy says “Cheffar,” “we,” or “us,” it means the Cheffar product and the company team that runs it.

Questions about this policy: contact us through the Support pages on Cheffar, or use the contact routes listed in the footer of the site.

What this policy covers

This policy applies to cheffar.com, our web and mobile products, and related services we provide for booking, messaging, payments, and support.

It does not control how independent cooks or third-party payment providers handle data under their own policies. When you pay or message through a partner we use, that partner’s terms and privacy rules may also apply.

Information we collect

We collect information you give us, information from how you use Cheffar, and limited information from partners that help us run bookings and payments.

  • Account details: name, email, phone, password or auth tokens, profile photo, role (host or cook).
  • Booking details: date, location for the meal (as you provide it), occasion notes, menu preferences, guest counts, and messages between host and cook.
  • Money details: labor fee, market budget, support fees, payment status, payout status. We do not store full card or mobile-wallet secrets when a payment partner processes the checkout.
  • Cook verification details: identity documents, food-safety or professional credentials, training status, and related review notes needed to screen cooks.
  • Device and usage: IP address, browser type, app version, pages or screens viewed, approximate location derived from IP or market selection, and diagnostic logs.
  • Support: messages and attachments you send to Cheffar support.

How we use information

We use personal information to:

  • Create and secure accounts, and show the right product for hosts or cooks.
  • Match bookings, surface cooks, and enable messaging around a booking.
  • Process payments and hold funds until shopping and service are complete according to our booking rules.
  • Verify cooks, enforce Trust & safety standards, and review reports or disputes.
  • Improve reliability, fix bugs, and understand product usage in aggregate.
  • Send transactional messages (booking updates, receipts, security alerts). Marketing messages only where you have opted in or local law allows, with an easy opt-out.
  • Comply with law, enforce our Terms, and protect people using Cheffar.

When we share information

We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as needed to run Cheffar:

  • With the other party to a booking (host or cook) — profile, booking details, and messages required to complete the meal.
  • With payment, identity, cloud, analytics, and messaging partners under contract, limited to what they need to perform their service.
  • With professional advisers or authorities when law requires it or when we must protect rights, safety, or property.
  • In a company reorganization, merger, or transfer of assets, under continued privacy protections.

How long we keep information

We keep information for as long as your account is active and as long as we need it for bookings, disputes, safety, accounting, and legal duties. When we no longer need it, we delete or de-identify it on a reasonable schedule, except where law requires a longer hold.

Your choices and rights

Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or export personal information, or to object to or limit certain processing. You can update much of your profile in Settings. To close your account, follow Account data and deletion at https://cheffar.com/legal/account, or contact Support through Cheffar.

You may opt out of marketing emails using the link in those messages. Transactional booking and security messages will still be sent when needed to run the product.

Security

We use administrative, technical, and organizational measures designed to protect personal information. No method of transmission or storage is perfect. If we become aware of a breach that affects you, we will notify you and regulators when the law requires.

Children

Cheffar is not directed at children under 16 (or the minimum age required where you live). We do not knowingly collect personal information from children for their own accounts. If you believe a child has given us data, contact Support and we will take appropriate steps.

Where data is processed

Cheffar operates across African markets and may process information in the country where you book and in other countries where we or our processors run infrastructure. We take steps to protect information in line with this policy when it moves across borders.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as Cheffar evolves. We will change the effective date above and, when changes are material, provide additional notice in the product or by email when appropriate. Continued use after the effective date means you accept the updated policy.
